May 1937 Coronation
There must surely be more varieties of first
day cover for the Coronation stamp than for any other stamp issue - in the
world? A fdc was
an easy and relatively cheap souvenir of the royal event - stamp collecting was highly
popular and fdc collecting was of increasing interest - with no official GPO
covers, many dealers and individuals produced their own - and for some, it
would have been seen as an investment, (correctly considering the cost of a
cover now compared to 1½d at compound interest). |

There was plenty of scope for collectors to make combinations of stamps -
this one got a bit carried away. |

Covers issued on the T.P.O.'s offer a new 'line' in
